Monday at the Copa is intense, with 64 singles matches to be played, 32 in Boys and 32 in Girls. By the end of the day both Main Draws are at half capacity with 32 players in each draw eliminated from the singles action. Most matches go by the book with stronger ranked players prevailing over those with lesser rankings.

In the Boys Main Draw only 7 matches resulted in a lower ranked player defeating a higher ranked opponent. The most significant of these upsets was Valdemar HOLM of Sweden, a Lucky Loser ranked 949, surprising Nathan PERRONE of USA ranked 183 and seeded 14 in a tough 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) as the final point hit the net and dribbled in HOLM´s favor. In another upset Brian CERNOCH of USA ranked 453 defeated the no. 6 seed Valentino CARATINI of Argentina (ranked 125) by a 7-5, 6-3 score. All other 14 seeded players advanced to the second round.

In the Girls Singles draw only 5 of the 32 matches resulted in a lower ranked player prevailing. The most notable upsets were Alexandra ANGYALOSY of USA ranked 792 eliminating no. 248 Katarina KOPCALIC of Canada by a 6-2, 6-4 score, and Maria Gabriela RIVERA of Guatemala ranked 610 taking down no. 131 and 4th seeded Helen ALTICK of USA by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
