In the first Boys semifinal singles action 5TH seed Oliver CRAWFORD faced off against 3rd seed Trent BRYDE, both of USA. For both it was the third consecutive 3 set match in five intense days of tournament play where both players, as all other semifinalists, had to beat top boys to get to their semifinal berth. CRAWFORD prevailed 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.

In the bottom half of the draw 4th seed Vasil KIRKOV (USA) confronted 2nd seed Sam RIFFICE (USA) in night play. KIRKOV got off to a hot 4-0 start and took the first set 6-1. But the second set was perhaps the best of the tournament as 2 very talented and determined players delighted the fans on Stadium Court. KIRKOV took this second set 7-5 for his place in the finals.

In the top half of the Girls draw 6th seed Hurricane BLACK (USA), with her unconventional style of play, took on unseeded Salma EWING also of USA. It is frustrating for any girl to play BLACK who hits soft serves and a low bouncing slice forehand along with a competent backhand and excellent placement. EWING was able to cope and took the match 6-3, 6-4 and achieves the difficult task of making the finals unseeded. Salma is a good player ranked 268 and will now see her ITF ranking jump.

The last semifinal slot in the Girls singles draw was up for grabs between 3rd seed Sofia SEWING of USA and no. 2 seed Emily APPLETON (GBR), who know each other well as doubles partners who incidentally will be playing in the Copa doubles final. Sofia is a strong, patient, serene player and battled APPLETON fiercely with laser forehands and terrific placement. In the end Emily pulled out the win 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

In doubles action the number 1 and 2 boys seeds prevailed over tough opponents in straight sets. No. 1 seeds Constantin BITTOUN KOUZMIN of France and Sam RIFFICE of USA will now face off against the talented and tough US duo of Gianni ROSS and Danny THOMAS.

In Girls doubles semifinal play no. 1 seeds Emily APPLETON and Sofia SEWING took out unseeded Victoria HU and Gabriella PRICE of USA in straight sets to win their place in the final. No. 2 seeds Ellie DOUGLAS and Nicole MOSSMER had a more difficult time holding back no . 6 seeds Anhzelika ISAEVA (RUS) and Draginja VUKOVIC of Serbia in a tough 3 sets but prevailed 2-6, 7-6, 11-9.

Saturday action will feature four consecutive finals matches on Stadium Court commencing at 4pm. We anticipate excellent tennis action.
