The programming for Tuesday second round singles action and first round doubles included another 64 matches: 32 singles and 32 doubles evenly split between Boys and Girls. This comprises another heavy scheduling load, with doubles play in the afternoon going into the evening hours on the outer courts.

Results again were largely predictable as most seeds progressed into the third round, yet the quality of play was high and there were a few notable upsets, especially in the Girls Draw. But first a few comments on the Boys side.

No. 1 seed Dali BLANCH (USA) was able to beat back the determined and hard hitting Brazilean Marcio SILVA in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, but no. 2 seed Brazilean Natan RODRIGUEZ had to go to 3 sets to defeat Qualifier Timothy PHUNG of USA. Other top seeded players were impressive in dispatching their opponents and anyone of these (e.g. OLIVEIRA of Brazil, DE ALBA of Mexico, VELCZ of Hungary) could make it deep into the draw.

Other notable results were posted by the unseeded Leo BORG (SWE), son of Bjorn, who outplayed no. 7 seed Sean CUENIN of France by 7-5, 6-4. JC RODDICK (USA), also unseeded and nephew of Andy (ranked 869) comfortably dispatched fifth seed Joao LOUREIRO (BRA) 6-4, 6-2. Both BORG and RODDICK are playing beyond what their rankings would suggest and will be featured in Wednesday night play against high seeded players.

Second round Girls Singles was highly entertaining with several surprises that have opened up the Draw, especially in the middle part. Top seed Julia GARCIA of Mexico had to go to 3 sets to beat back Colombian Mariana MANYOMA ranked 621, and second seed Tara MALIK of USA was upset by Tanisha KASHYAP of India (ranked 522) by a perhaps surprising 6-0, 6-4. After Tuesday play only 9 of 16 seeds remain as numbers 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 13, and 14 have been eliminated.

Several lesser ranked players will see their ITF number improve as they have the potential to progress even deeper into the draw. Some of these are Alexis BLOKHINA (USA) ranked 868, Jaedan BROWN (USA) no. 561, Melisa ERCAN (TUR) ranked 564, and Alexia HARMON (USA) at 797 who have all beaten seeded players to get to the round of 16. Wednesday third round play in the Girls Draw will be very interesting indeed.
