Round of 16 action saw both singles draws whittled down to more manageable scheduling with only 8 singles matches each. In the Boys draw 12 of 16 players were seeded with only seeds 5, 7, 15, and 16 eliminated. Seeds 5 and 7 were displaced by Leo BORG of Sweden and JC RODDICK of USA in the second round who both bring distinguished tennis pedigrees to our tournament. In the Round of 16 BORG dominated Juncheng SHANG (CHN) 6-2, 6-3 and RODDICK had a more difficult time with Jackson ANTHROP of USA but prevailed 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.

Will we have a dream matchup in the final of BORG/RODDICK? Not so fast say top seeds Dali BLANCH of USA (1) and Natan RODRIGUEZ  (2) of Brazil. BLANCH continues his quest to the final (as his brother Ulises achieved 4 years ago) and finally dropped a set against Axel GARCIAN of France 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 but looks intimidating with his hard hitting strokes. Natan RODRIGUEZ of Brazil beat back Jin GU of China 6-2, 6-4 to hold down the bottom half of the draw. Other talented players are also disputing the road to the final. These include BOSCARDIN (10) of Brazil, KUZUHARA of USA, DE ALBA VALDES (4) of Mexico, and SADAOUI (11) of France.

The Girls Draw continues with its wild free for all as top seeds continue to fall. No. 1 seed Julia GARCIA of Mexico went down to Alexis BLOKHINA of USA 7-6, 6-2 as did the other Mexican girl Alejandra CRUZ (5) to Rebecca LYNN of USA seeded 11 by 7-5, 6-2. Only seeds 8, 11, 15, and 16 are still left in the draw so that a berth in the final is possible for any of the remaining players.

Unseeded Melisa ERCAN of Turkey and Alexia HARMON of USA continue winning in the middle of the draw. HARMON is a player to watch as she continues to win easily, having dispatched no. 6 seed VAN IMPE of Belgium 6-0, 6-1 in the second round. Sofia ROJAS and Nevena CARTON, both of USA have also won easily. Another player to watch is the Serbian Lola RADIVOJEVIC seeded 15 who eliminated the tough Tanisha KASYAP of India in 3 sets. KASHYAP had beaten no. 2 seed Tara MALIK of USA by 6-0, 6-4 in the second round. Yes, this draw is up for grabs.
